Farmer's markets are some of the best olfactory experiences; the melange of sun-soaked strawberries, fresh herbs, and farm-to-table honey really sets the mood. They are definitely some of my favorite places to go on a lazy summer day --you can knock on your groceries and have some fun in the sun, all while spending less than $15!
So, with the weather coasting n the beautiful 60s, low 70s range today so I thought it only natural to throw on a Chambray shirt, grab a wicker basket, and head to my local farmer's market with my mother and sister. What screams summer more than ripe berries, flowers, and sunshine anyway? We went a little crazy in the strawberry department, opting for 8 tubs of strawberries (for $7!), aka one large cardboard box of juicy goodness. Along with the summer berries, we grabbed some garlic, an onion, and two bunches of bak choy all for under $4! It's great getting produce there because you can get incredibly fresh picks for amazing prices, and most of the vendors have a large emphasis on organic fare.
And, on an extra style note, this is the perfect occasion to pull out those wicker baskets you've been dying to tote around all year. These are perfect items to bring with you to any farmers or flea market adventures. This wicker basket/bag holds a huge amount of items and your precious peaches won't get squished in there since the basket is so wide and roomy!
So, school's out and we're finally done with that dreaded hibernation period they called winter --seems like as good a reason as any to head out to your local farmers market, have a great time, and score some amazing deals!
